HISTORIAL

The hotel is housed in a traditional 200 years old stone building. It was fully restored displaying stunning traditional Asturian wooden galleries and terraces on the exterior and equipped with all modern comfort. As for the interiorism, it has been carried out with the utmost concern and down to the smallest details in accordance with the local atmosphere. Solid wood floors in every room, magnificent wood beams adorning the high ceilings and majestic fireplaces grant this elegant Asturian hotel an undisputable charm and invites every guest to immerse in this fairytale mountain setting.

REGION TOURISM

More than one third of Asturias is environmentally protected. Over 10.600 kilometers of land, including seven Biosphere Reserves.  The small but fast-flowing rivers are very versatile and are carefully managed, combining ecosystem preservation with sports activities.  The steep outline of “Picos de Europa” is an attraction for rock climbers and trekking lovers.  The slopes of the mountain motorways attract dedicated cyclists, as in the winter the peaks fascinate dedicated skiers. The Cantabrian waters  on the other hand are the perfect hideout for “sun, see and sand” lovers.

The Samuño Valley, where the hotel is based, is part of the Protected Landscape of the Mineral Basins of Asturias. An incredible environment of green valleys and steep mountains, where one can discover the footprint of the Asturian mining past and travel its magnificent routes and trails.  The Samuño River shaped a deep and narrow valley colonized by exuberant vegetation. The valley is also the habitat for wildlife such as ; bears, roe deer, wild boar, fox and badgers finding refuge in their forest stands. Bird watchers will also be delighted as the region boasts Royal owl, vulture, hawk partridge, Royal eagle and Alpine sparrow.

EXCURSIONS

Except sightseeing and cultural trips to nearby Oviedo and Gijon a visit to Samuño Mining Ecomuseum is highly recommended.

Its route starts at the El Cadavíu Station and travels the old coal road in an authentic mining train. The wagons, which are exclusively designed for the Ecomuseum, maintain the appearance of those used to transport the miners. The route ascends between chestnut trees on the banks of the Samuño River until it enters the darkness of the earth for more than a kilometer through the Socavón Emilia,which is an old mountain mine from the 19th century, to disembark at a depth of 32 meters in the first plant of the Well “San Luis”. 

After climbing through the mine cage one will discover the “San Luis Well”, inspiration of the ecomuseum project. Nature lovers can explore the numerous trails and routes in the hotel’s  surroundings. Many of these hiking trails lead into the nearby Natural Parks and Biosphere Reserves.

Sports enthusiasts can enjoy unlimited access to the extensive range of sports activities, such as : Hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing, paragliding, canyoning, diving, surfing, fishing, globe riding, also the newest activities such as revering, zorbing, laser tag, etc.

Cared for and decorated to satisfy the taste of the most demanding palates. A careful and pampered menu with top quality products: fresh seasonal fish, a selection of Asturian meats or elaborated rice dishes, that together with the two wood-fired ovens for suckling pig and suckling lamb (specialty of the house), offer a perfect assortment of delights to surprise their guests. The service is completed with a wide collection of white, red, rosé, signature wines, cavas and reserves from the most select wineries in the national territory.
