Situated in the “Autonomos Region of Extramadura” South of Spain.

Extremadura is a western Spanish region that borders Portugal and contains the provinces of Cáceres and Badajoz. It is crossed by mountains, forests, lakes and reserves, among with the Monfragüe National Park and the Cornalvo Natural Park, where one can see all kinds of wild birds. The capital of the community is Mérida, famous for the Roman ruins of the Augusta Emerita colony, with aqueducts, theaters, a circus and a bridge over the Guadiana river.

The Hotel itself is situated in a municipality of the province of Cáceres. It includes several districts such as Alcorneo, El Pino or Las Huertas de Cansa.

THE HOTEL

Located in the countryside of Alcántara, this Rural Hotel with Restaurant is housed in a previous Convent of the Franciscan Friars. Nestled in a small hamlet at five km from the neighboring country, Portugal.

The restoration and new construction of the building are executed maintaining  the spirit of the previous ancient convent , which gives the “ Rural Hotel ” that special air of old charm few establishments can offer.

Nine double rooms, fully equipped, comfortable, and with a decoration that makes them unique. They have central heating, air conditioning or climate control, television, telephone, full bathroom, wi fi …

Five of these rooms,  being more spacious, feature a minibar, a hydro massage shower and a large terrace with incredible views of the prehistoric and majestic rocks of Puerto Roque and the Sierra Fría border.

The Rural Hotel offers  a variety of amenities : saltwater pool, pediment court, and large terraces where relaxing  is not a dream.

When one wakes up, the mornings of La Campiña will give a good feeling to start the day, along with the fresh morning wind. A succulent breakfast is served : Extremadura crumbs with” torreznos”, typical sweets, toasts, fried eggs, natural orange juice, natural fruit of season and something that cannot be missed on the table: “Iberico bellota ham”.

THE RESTAURANT

In 1980 a small picnic area opens its doors in what was the ancient Franciscan convent.

Where the pilgrim and patron saint of Extremadura, San Pedro de Alcántara, took up the habits in 1515 and began his spiritual life.

That same building has been, for the last thirty-nine years, a witness to the prosperity and evolution of the Hotel Rural and Restaurant. Where they offer the best products in the region. All efforts are put into bringing natural and unquestionable quality products to the visitor’s table.

They have selected the best Iberian meats, from the Extremaduran pastureland, which are pride and embassy inside and outside of Spain.

All the dishes, are created by local chefs, with products from the region. Their kitchen represents the quality with purity and simplicity that characterize this area.

And all this can be enjoyed in the cloister-dining room of the Restaurant of the fourteenth-century Franciscan cloister, with capacity for eighty diners.

Th restaurant is open to the general public and not only to hotel guests.

  • There are various “ salons” available, all of them built on the old orchard of what were dependencies of the Franciscan Community.
  • The “Salón Piedra” with a capacity of 330 diners at rectangular tables and 260 diners at round tables.
  • And the new “Huerta room” with capacity for 400 diners at rectangular tables and 300 diners at round tables.
